Is there a minimum Grade Point Average requirement?
Yes, all applicants must have a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale unless a high school official/teacher can justify submitting a lesser GPA.
When will the scholarship recipients be announced and how are students notified?
All scholarship recipients will be posted online after March 19. Students who are awarded scholarships will be notified by mail.
Are paper applications accepted?
Yes, both paper and online applications are accepted.
Is the money given at the time the scholarship is awarded?
No, the money will be held by the EnergySolutions Foundation until the student enrolls in an accredited college or university and notifies the foundation.
Will the money be given to the student?
No, the money will be given to the accredited university where the student is enrolled after a) verification of high school grades have been received and; b) a major in one of the following is declared:
Biochemistry
Biology
Chemistry
Ecology
Engineering
Environmental Science
Geology
Geophysics
Mathematics
Meteorology
Physics
What does the scholarship pay for?
Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and on-campus room and board. Upon the Foundation's approval, a student may also use the funds for approved internships.
Can the scholarship be used at any college or university?
The scholarship may be used at any accredited institution in the United States or Canada where credits can be earned towards a bachelor's
degree in math, science or engineering.
Can only sophomores apply?
Yes, this scholarship program is exclusively for 10th grade students.
Is there a limit of applications that will be accepted from each high school?
No, every 10th grade student who meets the criteria is welcome to apply.
What if a recipient moves after being awarded a scholarship?
Once a student is awarded a scholarship, it follows that student. It is important that the student inform EnergySolutions Foundation of any
changes in contact information.
Do all forms need to be sent in together?
No, just make sure each form is identifiable by state, school, student and received by the deadline.
What are the components of the application?
- Application
- Two (2) letters of recommendation (preferably from a math or science teacher)
- Copy of 9th grade transcript, 1st Semester 10th grade transcript, and class schedule for 2nd semester of the10th grade.
