EnergySolutions Foundation Scholarship



After January 31, 2009 can I still apply?
No. All information MUST either be postmarked by this date or received electronically by midnight (mountain standard time) on this date.

When will the scholarship recipients be announced and how do I find out if I was awarded a scholarship?
All applicants will be able to check their scholarship status after April 10, 2009. Students who were awarded a scholarship will be sent notice by mail.

Is there a minimum Grade Point Average requirement?
Yes, all applicants must have a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale unless a high school official/teacher can justify a lesser GPA.

Is there a fee to apply?
There are no fees to apply for any scholarships from the EnergySolutions Foundation.

Are paper applications accepted?
Both paper and online applications are accepted.

Is the amount given at the time the scholarship is awarded?
No, the money is not given to the scholarship recipient when the scholarship is awarded. The money is held by the EnergySolutions Foundation, and is released only to the accredited university or junior college when the student enters college.

Will the money be given to the student?
No the money will be given to the accredited university or junior college where the student is enrolled after 1) verification of high school grades have been received and 2) a major in math, science, or engineering is declared?

Is it OK if I go to a different school than listed on the application?
Yes, as long as it is an accredited university or junior college.

What does the scholarship pay for?
Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and on campus room and board. Upon the Foundation's approval, you may also be able to use your funds for approved internships.

Can I use the scholarship at any college and for any major?
The scholarship may be used at any accredited institution in the United States where credits can be earned towards a bachelors degree. Scholarship recipients must pursue any bachelors degree program in math, science or engineering.

What degrees are considered acceptable for this scholarship?
Biochemistry, chemistry, ecology, engineering, geology, geophysics, mathematics, meteorology, or physics.

I am not in the 10th grade, can I still apply for a scholarship?
No, this scholarship is for 10th grade students only.

Is there a limit of applications that will be accepted from each high school?
No, every 10th grade student who meets the criteria is welcome to apply.

My child will not be enrolling in college within the first year of high school graduation. Are they still eligible to apply for a scholarship?
If your student receives a scholarship from the EnergySolutions Foundation, they must submit a detailed letter in their senior year of high school explaining their plans. This will allow the Foundation to hold their scholarship. If no letter is received, the scholarship will be void within one year of high school graduation.

Upon the student’s entrance to college, they must still have met the criteria of maintaining a 3.5 GPA in high school and pursing a major in one of the approved eligible majors set forth by the Foundation.

Where does funding for the EnergySolutions Scholarship come from?
The EnergySolutions Scholarship is funded by EnergySolutions Foundation, a private foundation.

What if I move after I am awarded a scholarship?
Once a student is awarded a scholarship, it follows them where ever they may live. It is important to inform EnergySolutions Foundation that you have moved and update your information.

Do all my forms need to be sent in together?
No, just make sure each one is identifiable by state, school, student and received by deadline.

What are the components of the application?
  1. application
  2. Two (2) letters of recommendation (preferably from a math or science teacher)
  3. Copy of 9th grade transcript, 1st Semester 10th grade transcript, and class schedule for 2nd semester 10th grade.
