EnergySolutions awards $25,000 scholarship
The EnergySolutions Foundation recently names the grand-prize recipient of its $25,000 scholarship.
Katherine Xue, a sophomore at Oak Ridge High School, was selected from more than 1,000 applicants to win the merit-based scholarship, which is to be used in math, science or engineering studies.
The EnergySolutions Foundation began the scholarship program in 2006 as a way to promote the study of math, science and engineering to encourage the next generation of professionals in these disciplines.
School winners were then entered into a competition for one of three grand prize scholarship awards worth $2,500, $5,000 and $25,000.
"Our goal with the EnergySolutions Foundation scholarship program is to help these motivated students fulfill their desire of a college education." said Steve Creamer, EnergySolutions chief executive officer.
"Because the scholarship program is an extension of our commitment to this great community where EnergySolutions employees live and work, I am so happy for the difference this will make in Katherine Xue's education," Creamer continued.
The EnergySolutions Foundation will honor the recipients at a June 8 luncheon in the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce.
The applications for next year's scholarship will be available in October via the EnergySolutions Foundation Web page at www.energysolutionsfoundation.org.
