National Release - EnergySolutions Foundation Announces Annual Scholarship Program for High School Students
The EnergySolutions Foundation announced today a scholarship program for students pursuing education in the fields of math, science and engineering. This merit-based scholarship program will recognize 10th grade students at eligible high schools. This will be based on excellence in academics.
Students selected for the scholarship will receive $2,000 toward a bachelor's degree program in the fields of math, science, or engineering. The funds will be invested until the student enrolls in an accredited university or junior college. In addition, three grand prize scholarships of $25,000, $5,000 and $2,500 will be awarded. This money will also be invested until the students enroll in an accredited university or junior college. National grand prize winners will receive a new laptop upon entering their graduate program.
"The EnergySolutions Foundation Scholarship Program is an extension of our commitment to this great community where EnergySolutions employees live and work," said Steve Creamer, CEO of EnergySolutions. "In order for America to maintain its competitive edge and compete in the world marketplace, it is absolutely critical that we encourage our best students to pursue a scientific course in education. The purpose of these scholarships is to increase the quality and quantity of students entering science, math and engineering programs."
This program is being offered in areas of the country where EnergySolutions has major operations, including Utah, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Washington, and Idaho.
Two prestigious selection committees will determine the scholarship winners. One will consider the applications of students from Utah, Idaho, and Washington and the other will make the selections for South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. The selection committees will be comprised of professionals in the areas of science, math, engineering, and from academia. They will evaluate each application for academic achievement and community involvement, and will weigh any special circumstances cited by the school.
